Donald Trump’s latest warning to enforce an extra complete levy on products from China has been labeled a “classic case” of US double standards, according to the Beijing administration.

A official from China’s Commerce Ministry also stated that the nation could introduce its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the White House occupant carries out his warning, adding that the country was “not afraid” of a potential commercial battle.

Last Friday, the former president hit back at China’s decision to reinforce its policies for overseas sales of critical elements, alleging China of “turning aggressive” and attempting to hold the international market “under its control”.

Additionally, he threatened to cancel a scheduled talks with Chinese leader President Xi, which was expected to take place during a conference in the Republic of Korea in the coming weeks.

Trump’s comments on Friday shook financial markets, with the S&P 500 falling by nearly three percent, marking its biggest drop since earlier this year.

His comments renewed concerns of a commercial dispute between the US and China.

Earlier this year, the both nations had consented to remove high import duties on each other’s products, which had created the possibility of trade halting between the two countries.

As a result, American import duties on Chinese goods facing an added 30% levy compared with the start of the year, while US goods entering the country incur a ten percent duty.

China’s latest remarks – published by the relevant government department in the manner of official answers to media inquiries – echoed language from the height of the ongoing trade dispute.

They criticised American limits on exports on semiconductors and chips while supporting China’s own overseas sale regulations on key elements as “standard procedures” to safeguard state interests and that of every country.

The official remarked that for “a long time”, the United States had “overstretched the concept of domestic safety, abused export control measures and “adopted unfair treatments against the Chinese nation.

“Turning to” trade levy ultimatums is not the right way to deal with China,” their representative commented.

“Beijing’s stance” on a tariff war has consistently been steady: we wish to avoid one, but we are fearless of one.”

The previous week, Beijing announced it was reinforcing overseas sale regulations on rare earth minerals and further resources essential to high-technology production.

This was seen as a key move, as the nation handles about ninety percent of the planet’s critical minerals, which are employed in products such as renewable energy components and smartphones.

New remarks from the US and China are being interpreted by some as a method of enhancing bargaining power in preparation for forthcoming discussions.

Remains uncertain whether a talks between the former president and President Xi, scheduled at a conference in Seoul later this month, will go ahead.
